Is the brain like a Swiss Army knife?

We are still at the early stage of knowing what goes on in the brain although we are making huge strides in our understanding of it.

One long-running question has been whether different activities in the brain have different compartments, or whether there's a bit of everything everywhere.

Is the brain like a Swiss Army knife with a lot of different tools in it or is it a single general purpose tool?

Professor Nancy Kanwisher, of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is leading research which has been looking into this and she outlines her findings.
