Syria 'heading into a civil war'

Arab foreign ministers will meet at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo on Sunday to discuss the report into their recent mission in Syria and a decision will be made on whether to extend the mission for another month.

Jon Leyne reports on the latest developments.

Salman Shaikh, the director of the Brookings Institute in Doha, believes the situation is escalating "dangerously out of control". The diplomacy is not keeping up with the situation on the ground, he says, which is giving forces such as the Syrian army "more confidence".

"We're effectively heading into a civil war around particular hotspots", he added, "which is likely to intensify over coming weeks."
