Sudan 'afraid' of Darfur reporting

A senior British aid worker has been banned from visiting Darfuri refugee camps in Chad and expelled from the country.

Dr Mukesh Kapila, the former head of the UN in Sudan when the Darfur conflict began almost ten years ago, was aiming to visit refugee camps to highlight the ongoing emergency and the failure of the international community to stop a conflict that left 200,000 dead.

"They were afraid I would draw inconvenient attention," Dr Kapila told the Today programme. "The world wants to forget this inconvenient crisis."
