Gove outlines teacher review changes

Education Secretary Michael Gove has defended his plan to "concertina" the process of removing under-performing teachers, shortening the review period from a year to a term.

Head teachers should "feel liberated to intervene earlier" where there are concerns over teachers, he told the Today programme.

"All teachers will continue to enjoy all the protection that employment law gives," he said.
