Darling: 'Get the process sorted out'

Former Labour chancellor Alistair Darling has called for the political dispute over the nature and timing of a referendum on Scottish independence to be sorted out, so the actual campaign can start.

"Get the process sorted out, and then let's get on to the merits of the argument," the Edinburgh MP told Today presenter James Naughtie.

He called on those people who are committed to campaigning in favour of Scotland staying in the UK to come together in a non-party political alliance.

"We can win this campaign" he said. "I will play my part in fighting for what I believe in."
