Salmond: Referendum 'must be built in Scotland'

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond has said that the referendum on Scottish independence has to "made in Scotland and decided by the Scottish people".

Speaking to James Naughtie, he said it was wrong "at this stage" to limit the scope of the referendum to a simple in or out as the option of "Devo Max" - further devolution but without leaving the UK - had support in Scotland.

Nevertheless, he said, despite the difference in opinion between Westminster and Holyrood, "I'm sure politicians are capable of coming to an agreement".
