Scotland's deputy First Minister has described David Cameron's announcement on the timing and nature of the referendum on Scottish independence as "a blatant attempt to interfere".

Speaking to Today presenter Sarah Montague, Nicola Sturgeon said that the issue was a matter for the politicians and people of Scotland.

"The more a Tory government tries to interfere in Scottish democracy, I suspect the greater the support for independence will become," she said.
