David Cameron has said that the time has come for politicians, including himself, to speak up about the poor quality of nursing "in some settings".

Speaking to Evan Davis, the prime minster said that "we haven't had a public discussion about this issue".

"I'm going to be visiting a couple of hospitals, seeing some very dedicated nurses, seeing some of the best practice in our country and saying, look, here are some ways we can spread that best practice so we get really high standards of care right across the NHS," he said.
