Cameron 'mudging along' on Europe

David Cameron is determined to take the ground from Labour on the issue of top pay, says political editor Nick Robinson in his analysis of the PM's New Year Interview.

On the issue of Europe, he says, the Prime Minister has been under a lot pressure to make a major speech setting out a new vision of Britain in Europe.

David Cameron feels it is easier to "mudge along", he adds, than make an explicit speech that would satisfy neither the Lib Dems nor the eurosceptics.
