'I'm an optimist... but it's bleak, challenging and terrifying.'

Diane Lee, chair of Watford Community Housing Trust, says that despite being a "resolute optimist", the state of the economy is "really bleak, challenging and in fact terrifying".

For Kim, who works in the voluntary sector, "uncertainty" is the most worrying factor in time of austerity. Tim, who works in performing arts, agrees as he believes the main worry is "the sense of the unknown".

However, the panel had diverging views on who is to blame for the state of austerity the country is in. Adrian, who runs his own business, believes people "need a little push" and should stop "sitting back and thinking they're being hard done by". Glen, a maintenance engineer, disagrees, as he says he has been working hard all his life but that now he can't afford to have a pint as much as he has "to watch his pennies".
