Foreign Secretary William Hague has called for an end to the state of emergency and the detention and trail in military courts of protesters in Egypt.
While the UK government "don't take sides on the intricacies of Egyptian politics," he said, he urged the Military leadership of the country to complete the transfer to civilian rule and enshrine human rights in a new constitution.
"We take sides on behalf of democracy" he told John Humphrys.
