17th century icy cream anyone?

Have you ever wanted to cook as they did in the 17th Century? Well now might be your chance, with the online publication of The Wellcome Trust's collection of 17th and 18th Century recipes.

They include an early recipe for ice cream, from a collection compiled by Lady Ann Fanshawe in the 1650s.

The digitised books are filled with recipes both culinary and medicinal, often intermingled.

This "ague for an ancient body" dates from a book of recipes handed down in the Townsend family, and believed to date from the 1630s or 40s.
