'no plan in place' to meet environment standards

The environmental audit committee of the Commons has accused the current government of trying to water down EU standards on air quality instead of tackling the problem.

The Labour MP Joan Walley, who chairs the cross-party committee, says that standards should have been met by July and there is "no action plan in place" to achieve the standards.

She adds that 40 out of the UK's 43 assessment zones "are failing to meet the standards" required.
