Time for a new time?

Plans have been put forward to scrap the centuries-old method of measuring days by the rotation of the planet, and replace it with an atomic clock.

Dr Felicitas Arias, director of time at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, explains why Greenwich Mean Time is no longer the international standard.
