'Failure to understand' surgery risk

Thousands of patients who have emergency abdominal surgery have their lives put at risk by the care they subsequently get in hospital, according to a report from the Royal College of Surgeons.

Iain Anderson, consultant general surgeon at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and writer of the report, explains the findings.
