Last night the Today programme held a special riots debate in Birmingham.

The first hour focussed on policing and public order, asking whether the police contributed to the causes of the riots, and if they could have responded better.

Panelists included chief constable of the West Midlands Chris Sims; Javed Khan, chief executive of Victim Support; Maxie Hayles, chair of Birmingham Racial Attacks Monitoring Unit, and Roger Graef, filmmaker and criminologist.
