'Expansion needed' in midwifery

The needs to be a major culture change in maternity services with more births supervised by midwives and fewer babies delivered in hospitals by doctors, according to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Dr Tony Falconer, president of the RCOG, explains why better "networks of midwifery-lead units" would give patients more choice.
