Planned Egyptian elections in September are still "open to debate" according to the UK's ambassador to Cairo.
Dominic Asquith told James Naughtie that the new political parties that "grew out of the wasteland" of the former regime, have not yet had time to properly form.
"They have a lot of activity ahead of them, and by September there is not that much time to do it," he said.
"This is fundamentally a period of change, which could prove to be a historical turning point."
