The Business Secretary Vince Cable has attacked his coalition partners, calling the Conservatives "ruthless, calculating and very tribal. But that doesn't mean to say we couldn't work with them".
Speaking to Today presenter John Humphrys, Mr Cable insisted the coalition will continue in the aftermath of the elections, saying: "I don't think there is any call in the party just to walk away... we have to stick with it."
Addressing the fall out from the Lib Dems' poor performance in the recent election he said "we will ultimately be judged by the success of that policy, the economic policy... and whether we are tough enough'.
And responding to calls from some in his party for its leadership to be more assertive and "shout louder" about their achievements, he conceded "we probably haven't made as much as we should have done on the things the Lib Dems have achieved".
