Egyptians 'have stepped into the vacuum'

Police have been ordered back onto the streets of Cairo - 48 hours after they were largely withdrawn following violent clashes with demonstrators.

Peter Bouckaert, the director of emergencies for Human Rights Watch and novelist Ahdaf Soueif are both in Egypt. They described what is happening on the ground in Cairo and what they believe will happen next.
