Doonesbury turns 40


It is generally accepted by the British that Americans do not have a sense of irony, apart from the cartoon Doonesbury, famous for its wry humour.

Cartoonist Gary Trudeau explains how the comic strip, which he first penned as a one off in his student days, is now celebrating its 40th birthday.
