Nick Clegg is to reassure Liberal Democrats who have raised doubts about the coalition, promising it will "put the country on a better path" in his speech at the party conference.
Former party leader Lord Ashdown told the programme that he had backed the coalition "right from the start".
"We do not yet know how this will play out," he said.
"If the Liberal Democrats had not gone into coalition the consequences for the party would have been worse, the risk for our party would have been greater, the benefit for our country would have been fantastically diminished".
