In his latest film, South of the Boarder, Oliver Stone travels South America speaking to the leaders of seven countries about Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez.
Speaking to Today presenter Justin Webb, he said he hoped the film would "redresses an imbalance" in the US approach to South America, which was experiencing a "social transformation".
"These people all want independence from the US, and they would like to keep the resources of their country for the benefit of the majority of their people," he said.
