Moat 'recorded rant' before killing himself

The suspected murderer Raoul Moat has killed himself after a six-hour confrontation with armed police in Northumberland.

The former prisoner shot himself on a river bank in Rothbury in the early hours of this morning. Moat, a nightclub doorman, had been on the run for a week -- since shooting his former girlfriend and killing her new boyfriend in Gateshead.

Police have now revealed that Moat recorded a four-hour rambling rant in which he complained about what he saw as inaccuracies in the press reporting of his case and threatened to harm members of the public if there were any more.

And police also released details of a previously confidential press briefing, in which they said Moat which stated that he had "demonstrated a long-standing belief that the police with the assistance of other agencies, have persecuted and harassed him.

"He has indicated significant unhappiness with misreporting by the media, believing the police to have manipulated the media deliberately," it continued.

"As a result of this he has threatened to harm members of the public for each inaccuracy he perceives."
