The Armed Forces minister Nick Harvey has said that there is no "firm timeline" over the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan.

Asked by Today presenter James Naughtie about the David Cameron's comments that UK forces must be out of the Afghanistan within five years, Mr Harvey explained that the prime minister "is trying to avoid the confusion in some people's minds that it will be over in a matter of months".

Mr Harvey was speaking as Britain marks Armed Forces' Day with hundreds of ceremonies across the UK, including a parade of soldiers and veterans led by the Prince of Wales in Cardiff.
