'The only force who could hit the heartland of Germany'

World War Two veterans have been successful in their campaign for a memorial in London's Green Park to honour more than 50,000 men of RAF Bomber Command who lost their lives during the six-year conflict.

Until now, the collective role of Bomber Command has never been publicly recognised.

Sir Michael Beetham, Marshal of the Royal Air Force and President of the Bomber Command Association, looks back on his experiences in Bomber Command.
