Oil spill 'not on scale of Exxon Valdez'

5000 barrels of oil a day are pouring out of the broken rig in the gulf of Mexico: the oil slick is now at least 40 miles wide and 100 miles long. It is likely to reach the Louisiana shore today. Dr Clifford Jones, reader in engineering at Aberdeen University, specialising in oil and gas, outlines different ways to deal with the spill.
