The Clangers made their final appearance in a broadcast on election night, October 1974.

Oliver Postgate, the creator of the children's programme, and who died in 2008, made the election broadcast as a response to his hatred of organised politics.

Stephen Sylvester, one of the voices of the Clangers, describes their own brand of whistling politics.
