Long-awaited proposals for funding social care in England will be set out under the National Care Strategy for England today.

Ministers have shelved plans for a death-tax, calling instead for a system of universal care which would be financed through compulsory contributions.

Andrew Hosken reports from north London on one woman's experience of the present system and Andrew Harrop, director of public policy at Age Concern and Help the Aged, considers how the funding proposals will affect social care in England.
