Foreign Secretary David Miliband has sent a message to mark the Iranian New Year this weekend, saying he hopes the coming year will enable Iranians to freely express their own aspirations.

Mr Miliband pressed the case for tougher sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme during a trip to China earlier this week.

He told Today presenter John Humphrys that the regime is "a matter for the Iranian people," adding "who makes the decisions in Iran matters less than the decisions they make".
