Where next for space exploration?

Today guest editor Lord Rees takes a keen interest in the exploration of the solar system. In the past he has warned we may only have 100 years to find another planet to live on.

But human space flight programmes have taken a series of knocks in recent years. Science correspondent Tom Feilden looks at the prospects for a return to the moon, and further adventures to Mars and beyond.
