Four years ago singer Edwyn Collins nearly died after suffering two severe strokes and contracting MRSA.
Collins, who formed the band Orange Juice 30 years ago, is now recovering and is in preparation for a return to the Edinburgh Festival.
He was in hospital for half a year and is still working to improve his speech and motor skills.
His wife Grace Maxwell has now written about their experiences, angry about what she says is the insufficient and often patchy NHS after-care offered to all stroke victims and their families.
Reporter Nicola Stanbridge met both of them rehearsing for their Edinburgh performances.
