Evan's lesson in bell ringing

The distant chimes of church bells is a common sound on a lazy weekend. But for competitive bell ringers, ringing the changes is anything but a laid back pursuit.

The Southwark Cathedral Society of Bell Ringers is warming up for the National 12 Bell Striking Contest, a national bell ringing championships being held in St Paul's cathedral on 4 July.

Today presenter Evan Davis went along to see them practise at the Church of St Peter Mancroft in Norwich and got a lesson in bell ringing from conductor Michael Uphill.

You can hear more from Evan's campanological adventures on the Today programme on Saturday morning.
