Evan Davis reviews today's stories
Pakistan's government has said a sacked Supreme Court chief justice will be reinstated, prompting the opposition to call off a major rally in the capital.
Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif had joined campaigning lawyers in demanding the judge's reinstatement.
On Today, the high commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan, said President Zardari had retrieved the situation.
Elsewhere on the programme, the item on whether children's self-esteem should be bolstered got plenty of reaction from listeners. Carol Craig, the chief executive of the Centre for Confidence and Wellbeing who made the claim, and Ian Morris, from Wellington College, discussed whether today's parents are breeding a generation of children who cannot take criticism.
"Your recent correspondent about children's self esteem was interesting and thought provoking," said one emailer, but objected to Dr Craig's connecting a victim of bullying and a child throwing a tantrum.
Another story which caused interest among listeners was the proposal to set a minimum price for alcohol, drawn up by England's chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson.
"I don't think that drinking alcohol costing less than 50p a unit is the preserve of only the poor and binge drinkers," says one email.
"Are these 'experts' who are telling the government that increasing alcohol prices will reduce binge drinking the same ones that told them that increase licensing hours would do the same thing?" asks another.
And finally, Lord Kinnock gave his opinion on the miners' strike. Lord Kinnock said the miners had been "led into the jaws of defeat" by their leader - and he "exhibited some level of anger at Arthur Scargill", Evan explained.
