British Energy rejects takeover

A deal that would have involved the sale of most of the UK's nuclear power stations to a French state-owned energy firm now appears unlikely. Peter Luff, of the business and enterprise select committee, and former energy minister Brian Wilson discuss how important this deal is to the British government.

The government's energy policy is under pressure after the apparent collapse of a deal between the French state owned company EDF and British Energy. Business secretary John Hutton says the government are "disappointed not to reach an agreement" but that the deal "has got to be acceptable to the shareholders".
