Audio Slideshow: The Godfather of Soul

Personal items of the late James Brown are due to be auctioned off in New York on Thursday 17 July.

Christie's expect the sale to generate about $1m for the late singer's estate. Legal wrangling between his many heirs has ensured that the icon has remained as controversial in death, as he was in life.
