Housing benefit cuts come into force

One of the Government's first major changes to welfare comes into force in an effort to cut the £21bn housing benefit bill and force landlords to charge lower rents.

Maximum rates of housing benefit for new applicants are being reduced and for those currently receiving the payment, the rates drop next year.
