13% increase in road travel

Over the next five years, the UK population is expected to grow, the economy is expected to grow and our use of cars, vans and lorries is officially projected to jump by about 13% over the next five years. Director of the RAC Foundation Stephen Glaister explains how roadworks were one of the main causes of congestion and there were an estimated 370,000 of them in London in 2009.
