What's the score?
If you want to exercise almost every muscle in your body, swimming is the sport for you.

Not only does swimming keep you fit, it's a vital skill when it comes to staying safe in water. And with so many pools all over the country, it's easy to get started too!

What's in the kit bag?
A swimming costume and towel are all you need.

Top tip
Start early - the younger you start the better. But it's never too late to learn!

Want more details on the sport?
Our Sport Academy site has a swimming section that covers everything from how to train like Aussie superstar Ian Thorpe to masterclasses in speed from Britain's Mark Foster.

Also you can test your kids in the pool with our training challenges.

Where else can I get more information on the sport?

The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) is the governing body for the sport in the UK.

Its website has everything from news on your nearest club to information on diving, synchronised swimming, medical information and training for coaches.

Northern Ireland

The disability section of our Sport Academy site has a guide to disability groups and features on British Paralympians.
