Will Denise's child step into her shoes?
Olympic champion Denise Lewis is enjoying motherhood and explains why sport is so important as she makes her athletics comeback. I love my sport and that is what keeps me going.
With all the criticisms and hard work that is involved in getting to the top, it's all about the journey for me. It's about what I can do, can I push my boundaries? Baby joy! Obviously during my comeback there have been times harder than others. But predominantly, I have a drive and I see where I want to get to. My baby girl Lauren is 2-years-old and I'm lucky she's been very good.
I think she knows that Mummy needs to do something - so she's on her best behaviour most of the time. She's never had those crazy sleepless nights that goes on for weeks on end. Looking ahead though, I won't push her into athletics. But I will definitely encourage her to take up sport. I believe you need sport. It teaches you different things about yourself. And also about your resilience and what you can do thereafter. But the choice is hers, obviously. If she's got the genes, who knows?!....Her Dad's exceptional and her Mum's clearly fantastic! What else could she possibly need?!
