The secrets of Beckham's amazing recovery
Around the Academy:

David Beckham's injury before the World Cup in Japan and Korea made his left foot more famous than his pop star wife Victoria.

BBC Sport Academy takes a closer look at his road to recovery.

Becks: World Cup woe?

He is stretchered off the pitch, complaining of tenderness at the top of his left foot and pain everytime he puts weight on it.

There is serious bruising and bleeding in his foot.

11 April 2002, 50 days until World Cup

An X-Ray confirms that Beckham has broken his second metatarsal bone.

This is one of the five long bones in the foot.

His foot is placed in plaster and he is put in a cast which will allow the bone to knit together.

He is told he'll be out for six to eight weeks.

This rules him out for the rest of the season and puts his World Cup chances in doubt.
