Becoming an umpire
Around the Academy:

You've got to know your stuff

If you're interested in becoming an umpire, the best place to start is the LTA's officiating department.

They'll be able to give you all the help and advice you need about getting started.

First of all you'll be invited to attend an umpire seminar. They're free and usually held at the Queen's Club in London.

To start off with you'll get a basic introduction to line umpiring techniques after which you'll be able to decide whether you fancy taking it further.

After that there'll be an on court session designed to assess your skills and technique.

Selected participants are invited to become trainee umpires and can start work as line umpires at club level.

Once you've racked up a number of days at local level the next step is an LTA accreditation course which gives you the opportunity to become a chair umpire.

Who knows, you could soon be chairing the Wimbledon final!

Why not give it a go and see how you get on? Good luck!
