Andre Agassi has won the Australian Open four times
The Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open are the highlights of the tennis calendar.
They are all played on different surfaces - so here's the Academy guide to what it takes to win on each of them. They carry the most prize money, the most prestige, and more world ranking points than other less important events. Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world - but the biggest and the brassiest is the US Open. At the Australian Open players compete under the blazing Melbourne sun, while at the French Open they play in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The four Grand Slam tournaments are each very different - and winning all four in a row is a very rare feat indeed. The main difficulty for today's players is that each of the tournaments is played on a different type of surface. And that can often have a big impact on a player's game.
