Turn like a pro with Sarah Price
Around the Academy:

Sarah shows you the backstroke turn
I'm Sarah Price, one of the world's top backstrokers.

Watch my masterclass

One of the most important elements of backstroking is the turn.

A well executed turn can save you valuable seconds, and I'm going to show how to get it just right!

Here are my top tips for the backstroke turn:

  • Finding the wall isn't easy - the best way is to look for the flags above you and count your strokes from there

  • On your approach, try and throw your arm to the opposite shoulder and then roll

  • As you turn try and keep your head tucked in and your arms close to the side

  • Make sure give a good push off the wall and stay on your back
