Kate Haywood starred at the European Junior Swimming Championships.
The 15-year-old Lincoln Vulcans swimmer won the final of the 50m Breaststroke in a time of 32.54. She finished 0.08secs ahead of Slovenian Tamara Sambrialo and just missed out on her own British Junior Record which she set last year. Haywood's coach Graham Bassi, was full of praise for Kate, who has a hectic summer of competition to look forward. He said: "She won it in the last 15m of the race. She has worked hard on the last part of her race in training and is certainly looking good for the 100m. "We came here looking for success in the 100m breaststroke, but to win the 50m is great. She looks strong and held it well. I'm very pleased," Bassi added. The British girls team of Kathryn Wyld, Laura Chase, Natalie Prince and Kerrianne Payne also won bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay. They finished behind the Russians and the Hungarians. |
