Putting in the training
Around the Academy:

Grant has a hectic training schedule
Grant trains for around 35 hours a week, with around 80-90% of that time spent in the pool.

"On a Monday I might do something like a two-and-a-half kilometre warm-up swim, followed by 10 x 300m at my best pace with four-minute intervals in between.

"I'll then cool down with a 500m swim, followed by a kicking set of about 800m and then another swim down of about one kilometre.

"Before I was 14 I trained a lot less than the average swimmer would've.

"I trained about six-times-a-week, whereas those that I was competing against were training eight-times-a-week for two-hour sessions.

"But there comes a time where you have to show your commitment and I then moved up to the 10 sessions that I still do now, as well as three gym sessions a week and a couple of circuit sessions.

"But it's good fun and I enjoy it."
