Sacrifices pay off!
Around the Academy:

Grant Hackett
For Grant, the sacrifices have been well worth it
Grant joined up with his coach Denis Cotterell at the age of six-and-a-half and has worked with him ever since.

But dedication to a sport involves sacrifices, particularly when you are training as a youngster.

"I guess it was just little things that I missed out on," admits Grant.

"Friends would go over to a mate's house or go to the shops or the movies and I would have to go to the pool and train hard.

"It would always be an inconvenience at a weekend if there was a party and I had to swim at a meet.

"But I look back now and think of all of the wonderful things I've done while being involved in an international swim team, including going to an Olympic games.

"I'm glad I made the sacrifices because the rewards were worth it ten times over."
