Hands in gloves
Around the Academy:

The boxers' gloves are colour-coded at the Olympics

Boxers wear leather, padded gloves which must all be the same.

They are NOT allowed to wear their own gloves - these are provided by the Olympic organisers.

Each glove weighs 283 grams and has a white strip to mark the main hitting area.

For extra support and to protect bones from being damaged competitors are also allowed to wear bandages underneath the gloves.

Competitors wear red or blue vests to indicate their 'corner' and shorts can't be longer than knee length.

Ricky Gervais beat Grant Bovey in a celebrity charity boxing match in 2003!
Ricky would need a shave!

Boxers also wear headguards and gumshields, to protect their head and teeth, and a groin protector which covers their...er...well...I think you get the gist!

Bizarrely in Olympic competition, boxers are not allowed to have a beard - only a thin moustache is permitted!

So that rules out celebrity boxer Ricky Gervais and his goatee from a heavyweight comeback this summer!
