Be a sidestep star like Shane Williams
Around the Academy:

Hi, my name's Shane Williams and I play for Wales and the Ospreys.

I'm going to show you how you can be a sidestep sensation - just like me!

As a winger, the sidestep is one of my main weapons of attack. It's a great move to use when you're one-on-one with your opponent.

Watch my masterclass

Here are my tips for pulling off a perfect sidestep.

  • As you approach a defender, decide which direction you're going to run past them

  • Shorten your stride to get your balance and timing right

  • Step wide with your outside leg and place your body weight onto it, ready to explode off that foot in an instant

  • As the defender also moves outside, shift your weight onto the other side of your body, then push off on your outside leg

Now, I've shown you how, it's your turn to go out there and give them the run-around.

    Good luck!
