Scott Quinell started out at Stradey Park
Ever dreamt of striding out at Stradey Park? Well, the Scarlets have just launched a search for the stars of the future. So this could be just the chance you've been waiting for! The Llanelli Scarlets Academy want to recruit players betwen the ages of 18-21.
"We know there's a lot of talent in the region and we want to ensure these players get the best possible chance to develop into future stars," said Llanelli Scarlets' Director of Rugby, Gareth Jenkins. Top class coaches have been brought on board to host weekly training sessions at Stradey Park or one of the region's other coaching bases in Pembrokeshire and North Wales. Matches take place around the region once a month. Coach Kevin George is particularly keen to target players who are late developers or who may have been late taking up the game. He said: "Perhaps, like Neath's Shane Williams, they played soccer at school and took up rugby relatively late. Or, in the case of many forwards, late physical development has meant they've been overlooked until now."
So, reckon you've got what it takes? First you'll need to ask your club or college coach to put your name forward. After that, you'll be invited to join the squad for assessment. Details have already been circulated to the clubs in the region so your coach should have all the information you need. You can also find out more by contacting Joanna Masters, Marketing & PR, Llanelli Scarlets, Stradey Park, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, SA15 4BT. Tel: 01554 783900. Who knows, you could soon be following in the footsteps of Scott Quinnell!
